After a 3-year wait, the renowned Philly band, The Roots announce that they will be releasing their 11th studio album, “…& Then You Shoot Your Cousin” (or &TYSYC for short). Black Thought sat down with XXL Magazine and gave more detail about the upcoming album—unlike the concept album undun, that revolved around the tragic story of the fictional character Redford Stevens, &TYSYC will focus on variety characters– “…it’s not just about just one kind of character, we create quite a few different characters in this record. It’s satire, but in that satire it’s an analysis of some of the stereotypes perpetuated in not only the hip-hop community, but in the community. I don’t know if that makes any sense.” He later added: “We created some of these characters that we kind of see,” he continued. “We as artists, musicians, Philadelphians, New Yorkers, we as black men, we’re familiar with very many of these characters, and we kind of introduce them to the rest of the world in a manner that makes them more easily understood than maybe seeing it.” “…& Then You Shoot Your Cousin” is set for released in the Spring. If you can’t wait until then to get your fix of The Roots, you can watch them every evening on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on NBC.
